Wanatah, IN weather
Wanatah is a town of about 1,000 in southwestern La Porte County, on the line between farm country and the lake belt. It's about 15 miles south-southwest of La Porte (straight line), on Central Time, and its forecasts and warnings come from the National Weather Service office for Northern Indiana in Syracuse.

What Wanatah's weather is like
Wanatah is far from the lake, and it can show in winter. In the Jan. 14-15, 2026 lake-effect event, a station 4.4 miles east-southeast of Wanatah measured 2 inches while eastern La Porte County got 20. Wind across open fields can also drift snow over country roads.
Warm-season storms are the bigger threat. On June 11, 2026, an EF-3 tornado that tracked across Lake and Porter counties weakened to EF-1 as it entered La Porte County south of Wanatah, with damaging winds up to about 90 mph there, ABC57 reported from the Weather Service's survey.
