What Hanna's weather is like

Southern La Porte County is far from Lake Michigan, so lake-effect snow is usually lighter than in La Porte or on the lakeshore. Wind is the bigger winter problem: across open farmland it blows snow over U.S. 30 and county roads and can cut visibility quickly.

The county's southern boundary is the Kankakee River, and heavy rain can flood low ground and ditches across the south county. Never drive into water over a road: the Weather Service says 12 inches of moving water can carry away most cars.
