What La Crosse's weather is like

La Crosse is in the far south of La Porte County, a long way from Lake Michigan, so lake-effect snow matters less here than up north. Flat, open land means wind does more of the work: blowing snow in winter and strong storm gusts in summer.

The county's southern boundary is the Kankakee River, and long, heavy rains can flood fields, ditches and low roads across the south county. Turn around at water over a road.
