HOW IT PICKS

One sky, one word for the day

The box reads the National Weather Service forecast and alerts for its town and picks the kind of sky ahead, today and tonight. Then it shows that sky's devotion for the day: a verse from the King James Bible and three short sentences that end with something to do. La Porte's is picked once, around 5:30 AM Central, and stays all day; for other towns the box reads the latest forecast when the page opens, so the devotion can change if the forecast does. Either way it's a new one each day.

  • A Weather Service watch or warningSevere storms or a tornado, a winter storm, flooding, dangerous heat or cold: the official alert comes first, then a devotion about shelter, readiness and neighbors.
  • ThunderstormsPeace, be still. When thunder roars, go indoors.
  • RainRain that soaks in and feeds what grows.
  • FogSeeing only a few steps ahead, and trusting the One who sees it all.
  • WindThe wind you can't see, and the still small voice after it.
  • First frost, and frostThe seasons God promised, and caring for animals on cold nights.
  • First snow, and snowWhiter than snow, quiet snowy days, and shoveling a neighbor's walk.
  • IceCareful steps, and the One who keeps your foot from slipping.
  • Bitter coldFaith that looks like a coat, a ride or a warm meal.
  • HeatGod as our shade, and a cup of cold water in His name.
  • After the stormThe rainbow, the quiet harbor, and cleanup with neighbors.
  • A beautiful day, clear skies or cloudsGratitude for the good days, and hope for the gray ones.

The fine print

  • Free for any church, school, business or person. No sign-up and no ads. Please keep the La Porte Weather Now line at the bottom.
  • Safety first: when the Weather Service has a watch or warning out for the town, the box shows it at the top, with a link to the official alert. We pass along official alerts and never issue our own.
  • The verses are from the King James Version (public domain), each one checked word for word against two separate copies. The devotions are written by La Porte Weather Now and stay with the same plain, Bible-centered message for every church.
  • Privacy: the box loads from GitHub's free web hosting and asks the National Weather Service for the town's forecast. It sets no cookies and doesn't count your visitors. The town finder on this page uses OpenStreetMap's search.
  • Want it emailed to your members, or printed for the bulletin? Contact us or email laporteweathernow@gmail.com.
