Where these numbers come from

Everything on this page comes from the La Porte cooperative weather station (NWS Cooperative Observer Program station USC00124837, “LAPORTE”), less than a mile from downtown. A volunteer observer has read its thermometers and rain gauge once a day since 1897, the longest weather record in La Porte County. The records cover the years with a reading for each date, and some years are missing, so the count on this page is the real number of years behind each record.

The numbers come live from the Applied Climate Information System (ACIS) run by NOAA's Regional Climate Centers, the same data behind the Weather Service's NOWData. The normals are NOAA's official 1991–2020 normals. The station reports once a day, so “the latest reading” covers about the 24 hours before the observer's daily visit, and its high or low can differ a little from the La Porte airport's (KPPO), which reads every hour. Sunrise and sunset are worked out for downtown La Porte with NOAA's sunrise equations.

Records are this station's records. A different station, like the airport, may have its own.
