What Long Beach's weather is like

The lake decides most of Long Beach's weather. North and northwest winds pile up waves along the shore, and the Weather Service's swim risk can go from low to high in a day. Check our Lake Michigan page before you go in, and stay off structures when the waves are up.

In winter, lakeshore towns get lake-effect snow first. On Jan. 20, 2024, ABC7 Chicago's list of reports had 35 inches in Michigan City and 36 in Trail Creek, Long Beach's neighbors, against 28 in La Porte.
