Cloudy near 63; rain likely Tuesday night

Automatic update, 6:32 p.m.: Since the Scoop below was written, NWS has taken the rain out of its forecast for tonight (it had 20%) and raised its high for Tuesday to 75 (from 72). There are no watches, warnings, or advisories for La Porte County right now.

Mostly dry today, with a 20% chance of a passing shower. Today, NWS says: A slight chance of rain showers after 2 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 63. South wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Tonight: A slight chance of rain showers before 8 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 59.

Tuesday: mostly cloudy, high near 72; Tuesday night showers (90%); gusts as high as 35 mph. Wednesday: showers (90%), high near 67; Wednesday night a chance of showers (30%), then mostly cloudy. Thursday through Saturday: a chance of showers at times (20 to 30%), highs 55 to 61. NWS's forecast rain adds up to about 0.3 inch over the next three days. NWS says a low around 61 Tuesday night; our blend of NWS and four computer models says 52, so that's our forecast. The models disagree on Tuesday night's low, so that is less certain.

What changed in NWS's forecast since yesterday's Scoop: the rain is out of Tuesday's forecast (it was 30%), tonight now has a 20% chance of rain and Tuesday night's chance of rain is now 90% (from 70%). NWS Northern Indiana forecasters' key messages this morning: "Light rain showers continue at times through this evening (20-30% chances)." "Much better chances for rain (80-100%) arrive late Tuesday night into early Wednesday."

Right now there are no watches, warnings or advisories for La Porte County or for Porter and Lake counties next door. SPC shows only general thunderstorms here Tuesday, none today and Wednesday, and WPC shows no flooding-rain risk at La Porte through Friday.
