Mostly cloudy and mild, high near 71; warm Saturday, a few showers early Sunday

A mild, mostly cloudy Friday near 71 with only a slight chance of a late-day shower leads to a warm Saturday near 77 and a 30% chance of light showers late Saturday night into Sunday morning, with no watches, warnings or advisories for La Porte County.

A mild, mostly dry day: a jacket for the morning, not an umbrella. Today: mostly cloudy, high near 71, light south wind, with a slight chance of a shower after 4 p.m. (20%); NWS hour-by-hour chances keep work hours dry. Tonight: partly cloudy, low around 56, the slight shower chance ending by 7 p.m. At 5:15 a.m. the La Porte airport reported mostly cloudy and 46.

Saturday: partly sunny and warm, high near 77. Showers from the remnants of Isaias are possible after 1 a.m. Saturday night into Sunday before 1 p.m. (30%), with Sunday's high near 70; NWS's rain totals for La Porte round to zero. Columbus Day: mostly sunny, near 79. Then a 40% chance of showers and storms Monday night into Tuesday morning, Tuesday near 72, and more chances of showers Wednesday and Thursday with highs near 68 to 71.

What changed since yesterday's Scoop: not much. Rain chances are a bit lower (Sunday morning 30%, from 40%) and Saturday's high is near 77 (from 79). NWS Northern Indiana forecasters say Isaias's leftover rain should favor the southeast third to half of their area, with up to half an inch southeast of I-69, and a strong cold front later next week should bring much more fall-like air. For Thursday, our forecast from Wednesday's Scoop said a high of 66 and a low of 50; the La Porte airport got 70 and 45.

Right now there are no watches, warnings or advisories for La Porte County, northern or southern, or for Porter and Lake counties next door, and no severe-storm (SPC) or flooding-rain (WPC) risk here through Sunday.
