Sunny and dry, high near 68; a few showers possible Friday evening and early Sunday

A sunny, dry Thursday near 68 is followed by a slight chance of showers Friday evening, a warm Saturday near 79 and a 40% chance of light showers early Sunday, with no watches, warnings or advisories for La Porte County.

Automatic update, 6:47 a.m.: It's running cooler than NWS's earlier hour-by-hour forecast: at 6:15 a.m. the La Porte airport reported clear and 46 degrees, where that forecast had about 51. There are no watches, warnings, or advisories for La Porte County right now.

A sunny, dry, pleasant day, but go easy with any outdoor burning. Today: sunny, high near 68, northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Tonight: mostly clear, low around 48. No rain, and NWS hour-by-hour chances show work hours dry. At 5:15 a.m. the La Porte airport reported clear and 48. NWS says the air turns very dry this afternoon with gusts up to 20 mph: below red-flag levels, but field and combine fires often start in conditions like this at harvest time.

Friday: mostly sunny, high near 73, with a slight chance of showers after 2 p.m. (20%), then 30% before 7 p.m. Saturday: mostly sunny and warm, near 79. Showers from the remnants of Isaias are possible after 1 a.m. Saturday night and Sunday before 1 p.m. (40%), with Sunday's high near 69; that day is less certain, as the computer models we also check disagree by 6 degrees. NWS totals are only a few hundredths of an inch. Columbus Day: mostly sunny, near 77, then a 50% chance of showers and storms Monday night.

What changed since yesterday's Scoop: Friday now has a chance of showers, up to 30% (from dry); Sunday's rain could start after 1 a.m. Saturday night (from after 7 a.m. Sunday); and Sunday's high is near 69 (from 73). NWS Northern Indiana forecasters say Isaias's heaviest rain should stay in central and eastern Ohio, giving us only a glancing blow of light rain, and highs drop into the 60s by midweek. Yesterday we said a high of 72; the La Porte airport got 75.

Right now there are no watches, warnings or advisories for La Porte County, northern or southern, or for Porter and Lake counties next door, and no severe-storm (SPC) or flooding-rain (WPC) risk here through Saturday.
