School delays and closings today
On winter weekday mornings we check every La Porte County school district’s own website every 5 minutes, 4:30 to 8:30 AM, and post a delay or closing only when the school’s page says it, in so many words, about today. Always confirm with your school.
Only your school decides. A school can change a delay to a closing, so check its own announcement before you head out.

Preschools, daycares and other schools announce their own. Checked these sources October 17, 2026; if one has moved, tell us.
Their words, not our guess.
- What we read: each school’s own website, the way a visitor sees it: La Porte’s alert banner, New Prairie’s “School weather info” box, South Central’s status light, and the home pages of Michigan City, Tri-Township, Westville, Marquette and Purdue Northwest.
- What we post: only an exact phrase like “2-hour delay”, “schools are closed”, “no school” or “e-learning day”, in something new on the page that’s about today. We show the school’s own words and the time we saw them.
- What we don’t: anything unclear (no date, “tomorrow”, two different answers) isn’t posted. It goes to Scoop, who checks the school’s announcement and adds it by hand if it’s real.
- When: Monday to Friday, November 1 to March 31, 4:30 to 8:30 AM Central. Every entry is for that day only and is gone the next morning.
- Fastest way to hear: your school’s own alerts (ParentSquare, SchoolMessenger, text alerts or the school app). La Porte families not in Skyward can sign up for La Porte Community Alerts ↗; Michigan City has MCAS text alerts ↗ and an info line, (219) 873-2000, option 2.
- TV lists: WNDU 16 ↗, WSBT 22 ↗ and ABC57 ↗ keep their own lists, including many daycares and churches.
The National Weather Service doesn’t close schools, and neither do we. Our School Delay Watch is a forecast estimate the night before; this page is what the schools actually announced.
