Showers this afternoon and tonight, then a raw, windy Friday; frost possible this weekend
A dry morning gives way to showers this afternoon and tonight, more showers and gusty wind Friday, then a sunny, chilly weekend with frost possible, and no watches, warnings or advisories for La Porte County.
Dry this morning, but take an umbrella after lunch. NWS says showers are likely today (60%), high near 66, a tenth to a quarter inch; its hour-by-hour forecast is mostly dry until about 1 p.m., then rain likely from 2 to 6 p.m. Tonight: showers likely (60%), low around 52, gusts to 30 mph, a quarter to half inch. The La Porte airport at 4:55 a.m.: cloudy and 57.
Friday: showers (80%), windy, gusts as high as 35 mph, high near 54; showers end before 1 a.m. Saturday. NWS's amounts for today through Friday night add up to 0.85 to 1.75 inches. Then dry and sunny Saturday through Tuesday, highs 55 to 68, with areas of frost possible early Sunday. NWS says a high near 54 Friday and a low around 52 tonight; the computer models we also check run closer to 64 and 42, so our forecast says 64 and 42. The models disagree a lot on Friday, so it's less certain.
What changed since yesterday's Scoop: NWS's rain amounts through Friday night are lower, 0.85 to 1.75 inches added up (from 1½ to 2¼), WPC no longer has a flooding-rain risk here (from marginal), and today's NWS high is 66 (from 61). NWS Northern Indiana forecasters expect lake effect rain Friday and gusts of 30 to 40 mph Friday evening; frost is most possible Sunday morning, maybe Saturday morning, and high pressure keeps it dry until at least next Thursday. Yesterday we said a high of 72; the La Porte airport got 68.
Right now there are no watches, warnings or advisories for La Porte County or for Porter and Lake counties next door. SPC shows only general thunderstorms here today and Friday, none Saturday; its marginal severe risk this evening is well south of us. WPC shows no flooding-rain risk at La Porte through Monday.
