One more summer-like day near 83, then showers and storms late tonight
A sunny, unusually warm Tuesday near 83 gives way to showers and storms likely after midnight into early Wednesday, a soaking Thursday, a cool, dry weekend, and no watches, warnings or advisories for La Porte County.
A great day to be outside before tonight's rain. NWS says sunny, high near 83, dry through work hours. Tonight a chance of showers and storms 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., then likely (70%), low around 62. The La Porte airport at 5:15 a.m.: clear and 70. Bring in anything you want kept dry.
Wednesday: showers possible before 10 a.m. (40%), mostly dry after about 7 a.m., near 71; NWS's amounts for tonight and Wednesday add up to 1 to 1½ inches. Thursday: rain likely, then storms into the night (90%), another half to three-quarters of an inch, near 65. Friday breezy, near 57, 30% showers. Dry, chilly weekend: highs 57 to 64, a low near 35 Saturday night. NWS says a low of 62 Wednesday morning and a high of 65 Thursday; the computer models we also check say 57 and 69, so our forecast uses those. The models disagree on Wednesday and Thursday, so those days are less certain.
What changed since yesterday's Scoop: tonight's rain arrives a bit later, around 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. (from after 7 p.m.), and Wednesday's daytime chance is down to 40% (from 70%). NWS Northern Indiana forecasters say highs may near records today, thunder chances tonight look low, and the weekend chill should be brief. For Monday, our Oct. 10 Scoop said a high of 83 and a low of 57; the La Porte airport got 88 and 52.
Right now there are no watches, warnings or advisories for La Porte County or for Porter and Lake counties next door. SPC shows no severe-storm risk here through Thursday, only general thunderstorms. WPC puts La Porte in a marginal (at least 5%) risk of flooding rain from 7 a.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday.
Our forecast on record
