Sunny and dry all week; coldest morning Tuesday, near 41
Sunny and dry through the week in the NWS forecast, with a chilly start Tuesday near 41, highs warming from the mid 60s to the low and mid 70s by the weekend, and no watches, warnings or advisories for La Porte County.
Automatic update, 9:47 p.m.: It's running cooler than NWS's earlier hour-by-hour forecast: at 9:16 p.m. the La Porte airport reported 46 degrees, where that forecast had about 51. There are no watches, warnings, or advisories for La Porte County right now.
Today (Monday): sunny, with a high near 66 and a north wind around 5 mph. Tonight: clear and cold, with a low around 41 and a calm to light east wind. No rain is in the forecast, and NWS hour-by-hour rain chances show today dry through work hours (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.). At 5:15 a.m. the La Porte airport reported clear skies and 45 degrees, with the dew point also at 45 (100% humidity) and a light northwest wind at 3 mph. NWS Northern Indiana says patches of light fog or mist are possible on these cool mornings, so allow a little extra time if you hit a foggy stretch, and if you have tender plants or animals outside, tonight is the night to cover or bring them in.
Tuesday: sunny, with a high near 70 and a south wind 5 to 10 mph; Tuesday night mostly clear, with a low around 54. Wednesday: sunny, with a high near 72 (low around 52). Thursday: sunny, with a high near 68 (low around 48). Friday: mostly sunny, with a high near 68 (low around 47). Saturday: sunny, with a high near 72 (low around 53). Sunday: mostly sunny and warmer, with a high near 76 (low around 55 Sunday night). The NWS forecast has no rain at all through Sunday night. The four computer models we also check agree with NWS within a few degrees for Tuesday and Wednesday.
What changed since yesterday's Scoop: very little, and the week stays dry. Tonight's low is around 41 (from 40), Tuesday's high is near 70 (from 68), Tuesday night's low is around 54 (from 52), Thursday night's low is around 48 (from 47), Friday's high is near 68 (from 69), and Saturday night's low is around 53 (from 51). Today's high is near 66 (from 65). Sunday is now in the forecast, mostly sunny with a high near 76. This morning NWS Northern Indiana forecasters call it a pretty uneventful week, with cool, brisk mornings the biggest story. Tonight into Tuesday morning is the coldest, with lows in the low 40s to upper 30s, especially north of US 6, which includes La Porte. They say a few patches of light frost are possible, mostly on car roofs and rooftops, but dew points look high enough that most surfaces will just get dew; they still suggest protecting temperature-sensitive plants and animals to be safe. Highs start a bit below normal and end the week a bit above, in the low to mid 70s (normal is 67 at South Bend), and the next chance of rain looks to come late in the weekend.
Right now there are no watches, warnings or advisories for La Porte County, northern or southern, and none for Porter or Lake counties next door. On Lake Michigan, NWS Northern Indiana has a Small Craft Advisory until 10 a.m. for the waters from Michigan City up to St. Joseph, Mich. The Weather Prediction Center has no flooding-rain risk for La Porte for the next five days. The Storm Prediction Center has no thunderstorm or severe risk at La Porte today through Wednesday, and no severe risk areas anywhere in the country.
