LA PORTE, Ind. — September brings a run of community events that can fill several weekends without sending families far from home. Here are four highlights currently listed by organizers. Plans can change, so use the linked source before traveling.
September 4: Free First Friday at Lubeznik
The Lubeznik Center for the Arts is listed for a free September First Friday. It is an easy early-month option for residents looking for arts and community programming. The event is in Michigan City, so check the organizer listing for the current hours and details before leaving La Porte.
September 12: Hoosier Star at the Civic Auditorium
The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra says ten finalists—five adults and five youths—will perform with the orchestra at 7 p.m. Central. Audience members will be able to vote for their favorites, and first-place winners in both divisions are scheduled to receive $1,000.
September 13: La Porte Municipal Airport Air Fair
The 2026 Air Fair pancake breakfast is listed for Sunday, September 13. It combines a community fundraiser with a reason to visit the municipal airport. Confirm hours, admission details and any weather-related changes through the official event listing.
September 19: The Sunflower Fair fills downtown
LEAP lists the 27th annual Sunflower Fair for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. downtown. Organizers advertise more than 130 craft and nonprofit vendors along with food, live entertainment and children's activities.
