Kankakee River warning as cooler air settles in

Active alert: river flooding near Davis

NWS Northern Indiana issued the warning at 9:07 p.m. Central Sunday. It begins at 1 p.m. Monday and continues through 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Kankakee River at Davis is forecast to rise above its 10-foot flood stage early Monday afternoon, crest near 10.3 feet early Tuesday, then fall below flood stage Tuesday evening.

The expected impact is minor flooding of low-lying agricultural areas. This is a location-specific river warning, not a claim that all of La Porte County will flood. Never drive around barricades or through floodwater.

Today: cooler, cloudy and breezy

La Porte should stay mostly cloudy with temperatures near the lower 60s. Spotty drizzle or a light shower cannot be ruled out, but NWS expects most of the area to remain dry. Northeast winds may gust around 15–20 mph at times.

The week ahead

Tuesday remains cool with only isolated or scattered light showers possible. A stronger push of dry air should bring more sunshine from midweek into the weekend, with highs gradually recovering toward the lower or middle 70s.

Forecast uncertainty: Light showers through Tuesday will be hit-or-miss. The river forecast can also change as upstream runoff moves through the basin, so residents near the Kankakee should follow the live NWS river information.
