Active alerts for La Porte County

Flood Advisory: issued at 7:54 a.m. Central and effective until 9:30 a.m. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected after 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rain. Michigan City, La Porte, Westville, Kingsford Heights, Wanatah and La Crosse are among the locations named by NWS.
Flood Watch: updated at 1:41 a.m. Central and in effect until 1 p.m. for northern and southern La Porte County. Torrential rain rates could cause flash flooding if heavier bands develop.

Today: rain may redevelop

The heaviest early-morning rain had eased when the advisory was updated, but runoff may continue to create minor flooding. NWS Northern Indiana expects areas of rain, drizzle and embedded thunder through today and tonight. Another disturbance approaching from northwest Illinois may increase rain coverage later this afternoon or evening.

Forecast uncertainty: The exact placement and intensity of renewed rain bands remain uncertain. NWS indicated the heavier-rain focus could shift from areas near and north of U.S. 30 this morning toward southern parts of the forecast area later today.
