Rounds of storms bring a localized flood risk

Humid weather and repeated showers and thunderstorms continue through Thursday. The best chances are this morning and again late tonight into Thursday morning, with locally heavy rain and flooding the primary concern.

Morning storms may produce intense rain

NWS Northern Indiana expects waves of showers and thunderstorms across northern Indiana this morning. The atmosphere contains unusually high moisture, and the office observed rainfall rates exceeding an inch in 10–15 minutes in parts of the region. That does not mean every location will receive that rate, but slow-moving storms could cause localized flooding.

Afternoon lull, then another round late tonight

Storm coverage should decrease this afternoon and early evening, although a widely scattered storm remains possible. Chances increase again late tonight into Thursday morning. Overall rain and storm probabilities are 50–80% through Thursday.

Forecast uncertainty: Small-scale disturbances will determine exactly where the heaviest bands develop. Rain totals may vary sharply over short distances, so neighborhood-level timing cannot be pinned down this morning.
