Warm, humid Tuesday with an evening storm risk

A few showers may move through near Lake Michigan and the Toll Road this morning. A second round of storms is possible this evening, with damaging wind the main concern if storms become severe.

Morning: scattered showers, limited severe risk

NWS Northern Indiana gives areas along and north of U.S. 24 a 20–50% chance of showers this morning, increasing toward Lake Michigan. Any early thunderstorm activity is not expected to be severe. Cloud cover and morning rain will influence how warm and unstable the atmosphere becomes later.

Evening: watch roughly 5–11 p.m. Central

The Storm Prediction Center places the region in a marginal risk for isolated strong to severe storms. NWS highlights roughly 6 p.m. EDT to midnight—5–11 p.m. Central—with the better potential later in that window as a cold front arrives. Tonight’s overall shower and storm chances rise to 50–80%. Heavy rain and frequent lightning are also possible.

Forecast uncertainty: The severe threat is highly conditional and confidence remains low. Morning clouds or showers may limit instability, the front is moving more slowly than earlier forecasts, and storms may weaken as they move east. If storms strengthen, damaging wind is the primary hazard.

Heat and Lake Michigan

Highs should reach the low-to-mid 80s around much of the area, with warmer readings possible south and west. Humidity increases this afternoon, but NWS confidence was too low for a heat advisory. A moderate swim risk is forecast for Berrien County, Michigan; the morning discussion lists no Beach Hazards Statement for La Porte County.

The NWS Northern Indiana discussion issued at 7:26 a.m. EDT lists no watches, warnings or advisories for Indiana. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect on nearshore Lake Michigan waters until 10 a.m. Central. Check live NWS alerts and radar before evening plans.
